Jose R Garcia, MD

Doctor Garcia is celebrating his 50th year as a physician (1975-2025). He loves his work and caring for his patients. He grew up in Alice, Texas and treasures so many memories of helping his father in his pharmacy, particularly as a delivery boy in high school. He received his bachelor’s degree from UT Austin and his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. He did further training at Charity Hospital in New Orleans before deciding to go into general practice.

He opened his first medical practice in Elgin, TX and provided care there for three decades. After closing that office he moved back to Alice and worked as a hospitalist and then as locum tenen in several places in Central Texas. He returned to Austin in 2003 and began house call visits which has proven to be near and dear to his heart.

He has a true passion for home care and a genuine love for his work. In home visits allow him to know much more about his patients including finding out about their interests, history, pets, family, and day to day activities. He finds this allows him a deeper ability to assess their overall care needs.

Being on-call 24/7 doesn’t give him a lot of free time, but when he has it, family is his focus. He and his wife, Cindy, share 5 adult children and 8 grandchildren. Family time is frequently filled with laughter, song, and dance. He has always been devoted to his health and finds attention to a quality diet and exercise to be a valid way to obtain vitality. He enjoys running, weights, and yoga. Playing the guitar is also a great love of his and what he’s usually doing in the evenings.
